Current Initiatives
UVA Global Publicity is a project under Global Student Council that seeks to extend publicity about UVA to high school students and employers outside the United States. Some of the sub-projects we have in the pipeline are international High School Visits, participation in overseas education fairs, international students' blog and/or website, and brochures targeted for employers. UVA Global Publicity has received substantial interest from international students and faculty members. With the support of Dean Parke Muth and the Office of Admission, UVA Global Publicity managed to launch the international High School Visits last December, which covered a few high schools in China. The project is expected to continue to grow this semester.
UVA Global Publicity aims to increase UVA's reputation globally, especially among overseas high school students and employers.

Minutes from Meeting (12-6-08)
GSC Minutes Dec. 6th, 2008
1. Preparation for the general interest meeting
- Venue: Newcomb Ballroom—we need to book them early
- Brochure/fliers: brief introduction about GSC—we need to come up with the design during the winter holiday since the general interest meeting will be held in the first week of spring semester.
- Funding: we can get funding for Ms. Laura Casteen’s office (i.e. VPSA Student Program Funding), Miloni and Siling will be working on this.
- Introduction about the individual projects
- We shall keep on brainstorming for the programs during the general interest meeting.
2. Preparation for a student activity fair at the beginning of spring semester
3. Nanette’s High School Visit update (Link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=36434737279)
- McIntire School of Commerce preferred not to be mentioned specifically during the HSV
- McIntire are working on compiling a spread sheet about the international student alumni—we can share the database with them.
4. We need to build up our blog for GSC
5. Ms. Laura Casteen’s suggestion: include the international student groups
- We could have Ms. Laura Casteen invited the presidents of these groups and talked to them about it.
- We hope that we can automatically include these groups under the umbrella of GSC
- Nanette’s suggestion: we may also want to collaborate with CIOs whose activities are related to the international community, e.g. SEED (Students of Economics and Entrepreneurship Development)
6. Ms. Laura Casteen’s suggestion: Greek life has been a good way for international students to integrate into the local community—we may also work with IFC (Inter-fraternity Council)
GSC Leadership Information
Batkhuu Dashnyam (Chief Operating Officer)
Hey everyone! How is everyone doing? My name is Batkhuu Dashnyam and I am the Chief Operating Officer for Global Student Council. I am a third year in the College double majoring in Economics and Foreign Affairs. I am originally from Mongolia, but have been living in Northern Virginia for the past seven years. I enjoy travelling, hanging out with friends and reading good books. I am very much delighted to be on board and to witness the launch of this brand new organization, Global Student Council. I am hopeful that my background as a former Representative on Student Council as well as the various chairmanship positions that I have been holding within that organization, even as of today, has prepared me well to undertake the various tasks charged to the Chief Operating Officer and to meet any forthcoming, imminent challenges with equanimity. I look forward to serving on Global Student Council and to doing my utmost to ensure that all of our initiatives are carried through to their end. If you have any questions or issues that you would like to bring to my attention, don’t hesitate to contact me at bd5f@virginia.edu. I look forward to working with all of you.
